Mom loved this song – This and That

My mom loved Autumn Leaves. I find this version beautiful. She was more traditional. I asked her before she died why she liked it so much. She replied, “I just do”. I was so angry. I wanted a deep, thoughtful response that would tell me more about her. One day years later, my son Cliff asked me why I liked Europa (Gato Barbieri version). I immediately heard myself say, “I just like it”. Hmm. That said, I do remember where I was (New York, Central Park West, late 1970’s) and with whom I heard it. I know that memory is part of the emotional response to the song. I also learned about Diana Ross’s Baby It’s Me album at that time. Still love Getting Ready for Love.
