Love & Breakup Songs
No all is fine. I just like the brooding nature of some of these these songs. One thing led to another as I was posting and not all were brooding. I do not pay attention to lyrics. But, like the character Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory who has to learn about sarcasm, I have over time gotten clues about what these songs are about. I have no problem recognizing or dishing out sarcasm. The first song brings back fond memories of leaving my mom’s funeral and sitting in the parking lot with my brother Mark in a car and singing to this on the radio. I can still hearing Betsy coming up to car and asking her classic, “Whatcha doing”? as only Betsy can say it. It’s weird that this is what I remember from the day. I especially like when the harmony kicks in at 2:21.
Paul Anka’s Hold Me ‘Til the Morning Comes is one of my favorites. It is up there with Europa (Gato Barbieri version). I also like You are My Destiny especially the underlying feel of Town without Pity by Gene Pitney. Although Town has that Perry Mason (original not HBO) keys that start around 0:16.
Also from this era is Bobby Vee’s Take Good care of My Baby and Brian Hyland’s cover of Sealed with a Kiss. The original was from 1960 a group called Four Voices.
I actually like the entire chorus — not just a few notes :-).
Who can resist a song that works in a rhyme with the word etc?
This live version has a thoughtful introduction.
And of course the extended dance version.
Oodles of Beatles tunes to include.
I do not know if I would have liked this song as much had it not been for Sharon. We were at a club when she told be she and her partner were splitting up. This song came on. I remember thinking I hope she is not listening to the song and was overcome by such sadness at the end of our friends’ relationship. That is not to take away the fact that Whitney is amazing here.
Not sure where to classify this – I feel like it is not a love song or one to sing for empowerment. I consider it a rock ballad. But, the lyrics portray the guy as kind of a jerk (maybe)? It is still one of my favorite songs.
Karaoke for those who need to be empowered 😉
I like the transition notes starting around 1:39 or 1:40.
My fav four notes start at 2:12.
1:30 to 1:49 is my fav part. But, it would not work without the rest of the song. The Four Seasons will get their own post later.
